I made this video to document the Safe OUTside the System (SOS) collective's Safe Neighborhood Campaign. The Safe Neighborhood Campaign was launched by the Safe OUTside the System (SOS) Collective out of the Audre Lorde Project in 2005.
Caster Semenya: Wrong Is Not Her Name
Originally published on Black Girl Dangerous and used in many college classrooms, this short documentary I made, weaves a collage of footage from international news media outlets and pieces of popular culture to honor the story of award-winning athlete Caster Semenya and call out gender policing in sports and sports media. On twitter Dave Zirin called this a “Beautiful, moving 12 minute film.”
